A dramatic bronze sculpture by Demetre Chiparus has arrived into The Design Gallery’s showrooms. Standing 66cm, 26″ high, “Femme a la Palme” is a rare Art Deco bronze signed Chiparus and dating to circa 1925. She bears the famous Etling paris Foundry Mark. The width at the base is 23cm, 9″. Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (1886-1947) was a Romanian sculptor who lived and worked in Paris. He has become one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco period and a book is published on his work.
The Design Gallery was launched in 2002 to specialise in progressive design movements of the 19th and 20th Century. We met whilst studying at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and discovered that we shared a passion for design, especially Art Deco, Art Nouveau and the Arts & Crafts Movement.
