DRESS LIKE A DUCHESS SELLING SHOW: Glamorous cocktail dresses and vintage designer jewellery is arriving for our Spring Selling Show, open from Friday 11th April at The Design Gallery. Chrissie will be giving a free gallery talk on SATURDAY 12th April at 3pm. It runs until SUNDAY 27th April. Usual opening days are Wednesdays to Saturdays 10am-5pm. We are closed on Good Friday.
Designer names from the 1980s include Bruce Oldfield, friend and designer to the late Princess Diana, and Vivienne Westwood.
The show coincides with the major CARTIER EXHIBITION at the Victoria and Albert Museum, which opens on 12th April. The jewellery of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor demonstrates their passions for gemstones and for commissoning remarkable pieces, many of which marked milestones in the famous couples’ lives. The jewels were often in the Art Deco style and were created by the great houses and designers such as Belperron and Cartier.
Over 30 beautiful dresses are for sale in the showroom. New jewellery stock includes panther and leopard bangles and necklaces and designer clip earrings. The Design Gallery was launched in 2002 to specialise in progressive design movements of the 19th and 20th Century. We met whilst studying at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and discovered that we shared a passion for design, especially Art Deco, Art Nouveau and the Arts & Crafts Movement.
